Everyone remembers Wolfenstein 3D from 1992… but the name started way earlier.


Castle Wolfenstein first appeared in 1981 on the Apple IIe, and by 1983 it was on the Commodore 64. With revolutionary AI, real stealth mechanics, and even digitized voices yelling “Achtung!” — this was the game that turned Nazis into the ultimate video game villains.


Nine years later, id Software kept the name and the Nazis but created a whole new beast. From top-down stealth to first-person legend… this is where Wolfenstein began.
